MIPCOM 2017
This will be Brian’s fourth time attending one of the world’s biggest content markets. Every October, the global TV industry converges in Cannes to turn every moment into an opportunity, transforming four days of meetings, screenings and conferences into deals, from blockbuster programming to groundbreaking partnerships. This year the organisers Reed Midem will welcome 13,979 participants, 4,702 registered companies, 1,967 exhibiting companies and 4,825 buyers. Big Handsome Media will be in Cannes for the 4 days of the event as one of the exhibiting companies representing independently produced shows from Ireland.
Standing up is the story of Barry Coughlan, a dyslexic, wannabe stand-up comedian who suffers from chronic anxiety. As a result, when Barry finally gets a shot at his first stand-up gig, he decides to run a mile. However, through friendship and a little slice of courage, maybe Barry can learn to face his fears. Maybe he can learn to Stand Up.
Recently acquired by RTE are two other TV shows that Big Handsome Media are distributing abroad, ‘Living with Lyme Disease’ and ‘Call of the Wild’ both have been produced by Pembroke Productions.
‘Living with Lyme Disease’, examines how a tiny tick bite can dramatically change people’s health and wellbeing. In conversation with a number of people in Ireland suffering with Lyme Disease, the programme makers document the struggles around getting the correct initial diagnosis and then the appropriate treatment for a disease known as ‘the big imitator’. This show is scheduled for broadcast on RTE One on October 18th 2017 at 22.35.
So here’s to a very successful MIP which takes place from the 16-19 October 2017 at the Palais des Festivals, Cannes, France.
